DALLAS - Police have arrested the man accused of shooting an Arlington police officer in Dallas.
Edgar Solorzano, 23, faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and drug possession.
The shooting happened Thursday morning as undercover officers working with a federal drug task force.
According to court documents obtained by FOX4, an officer was trying to place a tracking device on a vehicle parked at 2720 Wilbur in Dallas about 6:15 a.m.
Solorzano came out with an assault rifle from across the street and confronted the undercover officer. Police said that Solorzano didn’t know he was shooting at an officer because the undercover officer never IDd himself, which is why he doesn’t face a higher charge. Texas law allows a person to protect property, even not his own.
As police investigated the shooting, Solorzano's name was dropped since he lives across the street. His father let federal agents in the home and they saw what appeared to be drug paraphernalia in the home. A search warrant for that address was secured and executed early Friday morning.
Dallas police narcotics officers found 8.9 grams of meth, three guns - one stolen, and several hundred rounds of ammunition. They also found an assault rifle hidden between the rafters in the roof. That weapon, recently fired, was how detectives linked Solorzano to the shooting of the officer.
Solorzano was not the focus on the federal drug distribution investigation, but his actions brought police to his house.
