DALLAS - The mayor of Dallas will miss the next city council meeting because of a breakthrough case of COVID-19.
Mayor Eric Johnson said he began to feel sick on Monday and stayed home on Tuesday. He has since confirmed his diagnosis.
He is fully vaccinated and therefore only experiencing mild symptoms of the coronavirus. His wife, who is also fully vaccinated, tested negative.
"Our primary concern at this time is the health of our children, who are not yet eligible to receive a vaccine," he said.
Johnson will miss Wednesday’s Dallas City Council meeting and must unfortunately cancel his other plans for later this week and on Halloween weekend.
But he’s thankful for the vaccine he had because he believes it made his breakthrough case much less severe.
He encouraged others to get vaccinated if they haven’t already and to get the booster shot if available.
"I appreciate your thoughts and prayers on behalf of my family, and I look forward to a speedy recovery so I can get back to work with my colleagues on behalf of the people of Dallas," Johnsons said.
