Dallas girl with cochlear implant finally hears her mom say 'I love you'

DALLAS - It's a whole new world for a Dallas girl suffering from severe hearing loss.                     

Dallas mom Rachelle Renee shared a heartwarming video of her 10-year-old daughter, Jaylin, getting her cochlear implant turned on earlier this week.

Jaylin’s mom said she has basically gone her whole life with very little hearing. She was diagnosed with profound hearing loss in her left ear and severe hearing loss in her right ear when she was 3 years old.

She underwent surgery to place the cochlear implant in her left ear in March. On Tuesday, her doctor turned in on.

It was the first time in more than 7 years that she was able to hear, her mom said.

“Lots of tears were shed but they were happy tears,” Renee said.

The most emotional part of the ordeal happened after Jaylin was finally able to hear her mother say the words, “I love you.”

Her parents say Jaylin's hearing had to deteriorate enough to qualify for the implant and exterior device.

“Before she wouldn't even hear me. She'd have to look straight at me to see what I'm talking about,” said dad Alfredo Garcia.

There is a process to adjusting to the implants. The device allows for a gradual amplification of sound so Jaylin is not overwhelmed right away. She's set to be back to school on Monday.

One of the things the family is most looking forward to is watching and now listening to Cowboys games, as everyone in the family is a big fan of America’s Team.
