Dallas Cowboys DE Sam Williams arrested in Frisco this weekend
FRISCO, Texas - Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Sam Williams was arrested in Frisco over the weekend, according to police.
Hours after Williams landed back in Dallas from the team’s pre-season game against Seattle, the 24-year-old was arrested Sunday on drug and weapon charges.
The second-year player out of Ole Miss was booked on charges of possession of a controlled substance and the unlawful carrying of a weapon.
Frisco police confirmed to FOX 4 that the controlled substance was less than one gram of THC, which is a state felony. THC is the main active ingredient in marijuana, commonly used as a concentrate.

The circumstances around the arrest have not been released at this time, but Williams' mug shot was released by Frisco police Wednesday.
Frisco PD did not reveal where the arrest took place or why Williams was being searched by police.
The 24-year-old Williams had a sack and two tackles in the Cowboys' preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night.
The defensive end was at the Cowboys open practice in Frisco on Tuesday and Wednesday after an off-day on Monday.
FOX 4's Jeff Kolb says the Cowboys are aware of the situation and that they are working with him.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke to the media Wednesday about William’s arrest.
Jones said he’s handling the matter directly with Williams, but his playtime likely won’t change.
"I don’t anticipate this impacting his time on the field," Jones said. "I do have all the details. It’s public record. I do have all the details. There are some lessons to be learned there, for everybody really. He had the wrong combination of things, and we know that some of that wouldn’t be the measure it was, or notice it was, but he had another part of it. When you add those two together. My attorney had to find that out."
Wednesday evening, Jones seemingly joked that Williams is "maturing" since the last time he was caught speeding and arrested.
"He is 34 miles per hour less this year than last year, 98 to 66. That’s improvement. We will get it down. We will keep working. We will get it down," Jones said.
This isn't Williams' first run in with the law since joining the Cowboys.
In December 2022, Williams was cited for reckless driving in a crash in Plano.
He sideswiped a car while traveling south on Preston Road in Corvette.
Both Williams and the other driver, a 71-year-old woman, were briefly hospitalized.
According to investigators, Williams was driving nearly 100 miles per hour. They wrote in the arrest paperwork "98 miles per hour is 43 miles per hour over the posted speed limit of 55."
Jones said after it happened there would be no discipline for Williams.

Williams was a second-round pick for the Cowboys in 2022.
In his rookie season, he recorded four sacks and 15 tackles for the team, improving as the year went on.
