DALLAS - A 2-month-old baby from Dallas County has died from the flu.
The health department could not release any details about the child’s identity, but said it is Dallas County’s first flu death of the season.
While this child was only 2-months-old, the Centers for Disease Control recommends the flu vaccine for everyone over 6 months. It's not clear if the child had any underlying health problems.
The health department is urging anyone suffering with flu-like symptoms to stay home.
“A lot of times people are going to work who wants to be the individual who goes to work and doesn't miss a day we are encouraging everyone to get a flu shot,” said Dallas County health director Zach Thompson. “When you start having the symptoms stay at home.”
Dallas County Health said the vaccine it offers protects against multiple flu strains including the H1N1 virus.
