It's that time of year when many people pitch in to buy a toy or two for underprivileged kids to brighten their Christmas.
FOX 4 is a proud sponsor of the Marine’s Toys for Tots program. On Thursday night, Cowboy Santas in Fort Worth, a charity serviced by Toys for Tots, began collecting toys.
Cowboy Santas began its series of toy drives last week. The Fort Worth Police Department helped out Thursday night by dropping off toys.
It's the part of Christmas that Cindy and Ed Purrington love the most.
“It just uplifts me, especially this time of the year,” Cindy said.
With no kids of their own, the Purringtons make sure every year to bless other families at toy drives like Cowboy Santas.
“We don't have children, but this is a beautiful way to give back to the children,” Cindy said. “Christmas is all about the kids."
The Cowboy Santas charity was started by the city of Fort Worth and is serviced partially by the Marine Toys for Tots. By Christmas time, Cowboy Santas hope to provide gifts for 10,000 kids.
"Fort Worth has just welcomed it every year,” said Fort Worth Councilman Jungas Jordan. “The citizens of Fort Worth come out and give toys."
“This community cares enough to make sure that every child does have a Merry Christmas,” said Tarrant County Commissioner Roy Brooks.
Thursday’s toy drive was just one of many toy drives that will happen over the next few weeks before they are delivered to families in mid-December.
