Gov Abbott addresses concerns on travel to the Cotton Bowl

Governor Greg Abbott talks about the preparations for those traveling to the Cotton Bowl on Friday.

Organizers of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic said the College Football Playoff showdown between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Longhorns is still on schedule for Friday night.

The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

What We Know: Cotton Bowl organizers are watching for shifts in the forecast.

Organizers said they have been meeting with city officials, the College Football Playoff and the Director of Transportation for North Texas and are prepared if the forecast shifts.

What They're Saying: "North Texas highways are already being bribed and plans are in place to assure a safe environment for everyone in and around AT&T Stadium on game day," Cotton Bowl organizers said. "The teams arrive tomorrow, as planned, and the 2025 CFP Semifinal at the 89th Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic will kick off on Friday evening as scheduled."

Traveling to the game

Timeline: The National Weather Service in Fort Worth released a graphic showing the potential for hazardous travel across the area in the coming days.

Based on the graphic, the NWS is anticipating travel to be the worst beginning Thursday night and into Friday morning.

In a news conference on Wednesday, Gov. Greg Abbott said the state's Department of Transportation would move trucks and equipment from the southern parts of the state to North Texas to help with game travel and keep roads clear.

TxDot took to social media platform X to announce crews from Pharr and Corpus Christi were on the way to Fort Worth to aid with ice and snow removal in the area.

A winter storm is set to move through the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex on Thursday with the area under a winter storm warning.

The forecast calls for a mix of sleet and rain throughout the day, varying by location and intensity.

FOX 4 meteorologists expect wet roads rather than icy ones during the day. After sunset, the wintry mix will transition to snow, with heavier snow anticipated north and northeast of Dallas.

Snowfall predictions are 1 to 3 inches in the DFW area, with 3 to 6 inches in northern and northeastern parts of the Metroplex.
