Coach, loved ones mourn loss of another O.D. Wyatt grad

Two friends who made names for themselves as high school track stars are in the news again under very different and tragic circumstances.

Both were slain -- one in 2007 and the other, just this week. Their deaths are weighing heavily on the Fort Worth school where they became stars.

Chester Johnson's body was discovered inside his vehicle in east Fort Worth Tuesday morning. He had been shot.

Johnson’s close friend, Darrent Williams, was a Denver Broncos cornerback who was shot killed in 2006.

O.D. Wyatt High School’s longtime track coach, Lee Williams, shed tears on Thursday because both men, members of the 2000 state championship winning relay team, are now dead.

"To go through this twice is pretty emotional for me,” said Williams.

Johnson had earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Texas College in 2012. He had dreams of becoming an athletic team trainer or a track coach.

He attended church with his family just last Sunday and served as an usher.

"I would have never imagined that he would've died the way that he did and then Chester come back and the same way,” said Cynthia Johnson, Chester’s mother. “Just...trying to imagine why would anybody want to take their lives?”
