A high school baseball player was airlifted to the hospital recently after falling off the back of a pickup truck at school.
His teammates and classmates, stunned to hear the news, turned their efforts into a campaign of support.
Nicholas O'Brian watched helplessly as his friend and baseball teammate, Ian Capps, who was sitting on the tailgate of a pick-up truck in the Timber Creek parking lot Tuesday afternoon, fell off onto the pavement when the truck moved forward.
"I was the one who called the ambulance,” said O’Brian. “It's hard seeing one of your best friends go through that, but it's just he needed help and that's what we had to do.”
And that's exactly what students at the Keller ISD campus have done for the injured teen’s family.
Capps is in the hospital with head injuries. Students wasted no time setting up a GoFundMe page and turned bracelets and a T-Shirt into a fundraising effort.
"We were gonna sell these bracelets for a dollar and they would buy them Thursday and Friday and then on Friday they can wear baseball Capps to support him,” said Brianna Mendez, a friend of Capps’.
On Twitter, the hashtag #PrayForIan has caught on.
Many students on Wednesday just waited for word of his condition, and just before noon, Capps tweeted a selfie along with another tweet, saying, “Thanks for the prayers people, I'll be good in no time.”
“But when he tweeted that today, he's back to his old self, he's gonna be fine, it was just kind of a moment of relief,” said O’Brian.
Thursday night at the football game between Timber Creek and Central, everyone is encouraged to wear yellow, and Friday at school is when they are encouraged to wear "Caps for Capps.”
