California fires: 35,000 acres burned

Crews in Southern California continue to battle wildfires across the region. Experts are concerned that next week winds could pick up again.

Firefighters from Dallas, Allen, Frisco, McKinney and other parts of North Texas are being deployed to southern California to battle the deadly wildfires that have ravaged the state.

What we know:

Several North Texas fire departments are sending strike teams to assist with the firefighting efforts in Los Angeles County.

Dallas Fire-Rescue says it will send six members and a Type 3 fire engine to the area. The team includes four wildland firefighters, trained to battle fires in hazardous environments, and two members of the Emergency Medical Task Force.

The team from Dallas will join other strike teams from Parker County, Greenville, Allen, Frisco and McKinney making the trip.

Dallas Fire-Rescue says its teams will depart for California on Saturday.

What we don't know:

The deployment is expected to last up to 14 days, but could be extended based on need.

"We stand in solidarity with the teams of firefighters working to protect lives and property," said Justin Ball, Dallas Fire Rescue Interim Fire Chief. "Dallas Fire Rescue Department is always ready to step in to support our fellow firefighters, especially in these extremely challenging conditions."

Texas sends state resources to help battle California fires

What we know:

On Saturday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott also deployed state resources to help in California.

More than 135 firefighters and other personnel from the Texas Department of Emergency Management, the Texas A&M Forest Service, Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System, and Texas Emergency Medical Task Force will make the trip.

More than 45 fire engines, ambulances, command vehicles, and equipment will also be brought to California.

CA wildfires hit close to home for FOX 4 Reporter

The images of the devastating California wildfires are heartbreaking. The devastation is hitting home for a member of our FOX 4 family. Dionne Anglin shares her personal story of her daughter being in the middle of chaos.

The backstory:

The Los Angeles area is dealing with a fifth day of wildfires after a massive flare-up of the Palisades fire forced more evacuations Friday night. 

The Palisades and Eaton wildfires have killed at least 11 people and destroyed some 12,000 structures as of Friday. Evacuation orders have been lifted in some areas as firefighters make progress on the Kenneth, Hurst and Lidia fires.

Government officials haven't given a damage estimate yet, but an estimate from AccuWeather, a private firm that provides weather data, estimated the toll to be about $135 billion to $150 billion.
