Brazilian couple rescued after 5 days missing in Chile's Andes near Argentina border

A couple from Brazil was successfully rescued and reunited with their family after they were reported missing for five days in Chile’s Andes mountains near the border with Argentina, officials said.

Chilean officials said Aurora and Eraldo Rodrigues were found safe and in good health near San Francisco Pass on August 23.

Local news outlets reported the couple had left Copiapó on August 18, the last time they had contact with their family.

Carabineros Atacama released footage showing the couple hugging first responders upon their arrival and meeting with relatives.

Following the rescue, officials urged citizens not to climb the area of the border crossing near San Francisco, where conditions are "not the most appropriate for tourist visits."
