Both drivers killed in violent Kaufman County wrong-way crash
CRANDALL, Texas - An SUV going the wrong way ran head on into another car on Highway 175 in Crandall, southeast of Dallas.
Police began getting calls about a white Cadillac Escalade going westbound on the eastbound side of the highway around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.
Officers from several different departments, as well as a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter, tried to stop the SUV, but they were too late.
Witnesses said there were multiple near misses and then a violent head-on crash. The SUV and the smaller car both burst into flames and both drivers were killed.
Police said the victim was a 21-year-old man who had just gotten off of work in Seagoville. He was driving behind a friend. That friend managed to swerve and avoid the crash, but he didn’t have enough time to react.
The suspect has not yet been identified because of the severity of the burns.
Police are investigating the possibility that alcohol was involved.
