Bardwell police chief, firefighter son to be buried Monday

IRVING, Texas - A small town police chief and his son who were killed in a head-on collision will be remembered Monday in Irving.

Michael Spurgeon Sr. was the police chief in the Ellis County town of Bardwell. His 40-year-old son, Michael Spurgeon Jr., was a volunteer firefighter.

They died a week ago Sunday. A pickup truck veered into their lane on Hwy. 34 and hit them head-on.

The driver of the truck and his two children, an 8-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, were also killed in the crash.
