A disabled Army veteran and his family have a new place to call home after evacuating their South Texas home during Hurricane Harvey.
The Hendrickson family was presented with a newly-renovated ADA accessible apartment in White Settlement on Thursday.
The complex near the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base had at one point been vacant, but was recently redeveloped.
The Hendrickson's were forced to evacuate their home in Orange, Texas during Harvey. They've been in North Texas shelters and hotels ever since and are looking forward to having their own home again.
"It’s a wonderful 3-bedroom apartment, its fully accessible,” said William Hendrickson. “They really went out of their way to make it a nice place."
The new apartment also gives the family a chance to reunited with their eight-year-old son. He's been staying with family in California since he couldn't be enrolled in school without a permanent address. Now that he's got one, he'll be moving back home.
