Police shoot, kill man at Arlington park: UPDATE

Arlington police give information about the shooting that killed a man at an Arlington park on Sunday night.

A man who shot his girlfriend was killed by Arlington police on Sunday night.

The Arlington Police Department says the officer-involved shooting happened at F.J. "Red" Kane Park off of S Cooper Street shortly after 10:30 p.m.

Police say they were called to Kane Park for a domestic incident.

When officers arrived, police say they saw 42-year-old Shannon Boyd of Irving shooting at his girlfriend.

Three officers opened fire, hitting and killing Boyd.

The woman was shot multiple times and is said to be in critical condition, but is awake and alert.

Police say Boyd does have a history of domestic abuse.

"Domestic violence calls are some of the most dangerous that we respond to," said Arlington PD Public Information Officer Alex Rosado. "They can be very unpredictable. Especially in this case when someone immediately starts shooting."

No officers were injured during the incident.
