Arlington Parks Mall shooting: 4 teens arrested after fight over girlfriend led to gunfire

Arlington police have arrested four teens in connection with the shooting at the Parks Mall Thursday night.

Police said it started with a fight between two groups.

Investigators found that 19-year-old Damius Lindon, 19-year-old Jaccques Jacques and 17-year-old Careco Harris were at the mall together. They reportedly got into an argument with 18-year-old Kaiden Jackson and some other people because one of them was talking with one of their girlfriends. That then turned into a fight as they were going down the escalator near the ice rink.

Arlington police have arrested four teens in connection with the shooting at the Parks Mall Thursday night.

The gunfire that led to a lockdown and evacuation started over a fight over a girl.

Less than 24 hours after gunfire inside the Parks Mall, shopping resumed Friday morning. It’s a stark contrast from Thursday night when more than 35 police units responded to the mall shooting scene.

"So I work actually at the Chick-fil-A in the Parks Mall. So like in my work group chat, people are talking about it," said worker Shane John.

Investigators quickly determined it was not a random active shooter situation but rather an isolated fight between two groups of teens who did not know each other. However, one individual tried to talk to another’s girlfriend.

"I was told the whole entire incident was over something as simple as just speaking with this female subject, and one of the individuals did not like that the group was speaking to his girlfriend," said Arlington Police Officer Courtney White.

Investigators say the violence started on an escalator when Harris pointed a gun at Jackson, hit him with it, but then lost control of it.

"The 18-year-old male who was originally hit with the firearm picked up that firearm and shot, fired around at the 17-year-old," White said. "The 17-year-old male was shot in the arm, and a female who was nearby and not involved in the incident was shot in the foot."

Harris and the 38-year-old woman were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

After looking at surveillance video and speaking with witnesses, police found Lindon and Jacques near one of the mall exits. They were taken into custody and later arrested for fighting in public.
