Arlington Heights HS student found with gun
No one was injured in the incident and no threats were made to students or staff members, according to Fort Worth Police.
FORT WORTH, Texas - Police arrested a Fort Worth ISD student for bringing a firearm onto campus on Tuesday.
It happened at Arlington Heights High School on the west side of Fort Worth.
Police say school staff noticed a smell of marijuana in one of the restrooms. A school resource officer searched a 16-year-old student in there and found the gun in his belongings.
"It’s a normal process when they do find things like this, they do a search of the juvenile’s property," explained Fort Worth Police Officer Daniel Segura. "While they were doing that, they discovered a firearm on the juvenile."
It’s unclear how exactly the gun got on campus. The 16-year-old was immediately taken into custody and transported to the juvenile detention center.
"No one was hurt. No one was threatened by this firearm and, again, school staff did an amazing job following their instincts and keeping everybody safe," Segura said.
Fort Worth police didn’t say if they ultimately found marijuana as well.
Parents received an email from the school principal at 1:15 p.m. detailing what happened.
According to the Fort Worth ISD student handbook, students are made aware at the beginning of the year that metal detectors may be used randomly at any time during the school year.

Gun found at Arlington Heights HS in Fort Worth

The handbook also states that any student who brings a firearm to school faces mandatory expulsion.
The student now faces criminal charges for having a firearm on school property.
Fort Worth police say it’s unclear if any random checks were done on Tuesday.
FOX 4 reached out to FWISD several times to clarify if there is a backpack policy in place, but we’re still waiting to hear back.
