Dallas murder suspect arrested in Louisiana

Dallas police have arrested a 27-year-old man for the murder of an innocent woman who was taking her daughter to get a prom dress in May.

Dallas police have arrested a 27-year-old man for the murder of an innocent woman who was taking her daughter to get a prom dress in May.

Charlton Porter is expected to be charged with murder in the death of 39-year-old Ana Moreno. He was arrested on a separate murder charge from a June 25 shooting in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Thursday.

Moreno was caught in the crossfire of a gun battle that erupted in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood of Dallas.

"Because it is really hard going home and knowing that she’s not that anymore," Moreno’s daughter, Michelle Rodriguez, said.

It’s been more than two months since 17-year-old Rodriguez lost her mother, who was an innocent bystander, in a senseless gun battle between people in two vehicles.

"We have to live with the fact that she won’t be here anymore," Rodriguez said.

On Thursday, 27-year-old Porter was arrested in Louisiana for a different murder he allegedly committed in June. Porter will be charged in both that murder and Moreno’s murder. Detectives believe he was the shooter whose bullet struck Moreno.

"It was hard thinking that he was just going to continue to live his life and my sister was gone," Moreno’s sister, Aura, said. "She didn’t do anything wrong."

Dallas murder victim's family glad suspect was caught

Family members say they are glad to have a suspect behind bars as they try to remember the good times they had with Ana Moreno. She was shot and killed in the crossfire of a gun battle while helping her daughter prepare for prom.

Moreno was an innocent bystander. She was struck and killed while driving her 18-year-old daughter to get her dress for senior prom.

Three men were wounded in the shootout. Their roles are unclear. More people could be charged.

"And it’s just not fair, but I am really glad that they caught him," Moreno’s daughter said.

Moreno’s family is moving forward one day at a time. They want people to remember the 39-year-old, not for her tragic passing, but for the joy she shared while alive.

"She was really important to all of us and it’s hard," Rodriguez said. "She never wanted anybody to be sad. Like if you were sad around her, she would always try her best to put a smile on your face, no matter what."
