Dallas woman, 19, kills elderly man over phone in Facebook Marketplace meetup: police

Dallas police arrested a 19-year-old woman for the murder of a man during a Facebook Marketplace meetup.

It happened last week just feet away from an elementary school and a busy Dallas freeway with multiple witnesses nearby.

Police say Ahmad Alkhalaf, a 66-year-old husband and father from Sasche, was murdered in the middle of the afternoon at an Oak Cliff gas station just off I-35 and South Marsalis Avenue.

Shots rang out last Friday around 3 p.m. just as nearby Felix G. Botello Elementary School was letting out.

Two Dallas ISD police officers rushed to the Valero and found Alkhalaf shot next to his pickup truck, according to court records. He later died at the hospital.

Dallas detectives learned Alkhalaf was there to sell a black iPhone 15 to someone he’d been communicating with on Facebook Marketplace.

Police obtained multiple surveillance videos from nearby businesses. They say the video showed 19-year-old Amaya Medrano and Alkhalaf had a short conversation, and Medrano ran off.

As Alkhalaf followed her, cameras captured Medrano turning around and shooting Alkhalaf, police said.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit FOX 4 obtained Thursday, investigators matched Medrano’s distinct tattoos on her face and neck to her social media accounts.

Mom warned Mesquite school hours before daughter was sexually assaulted: affidavit

Mesquite police have released disturbing new details about a sexual assault that happened on the Horn High School campus involving a man who is not a student.

Just three days after the fatal shooting, police noticed the same Facebook account communicating with Alkhalaf was selling a black iPhone 15 on the Marketplace.

Wednesday, Dallas police announced Medrano was in custody by U.S. Marshals and was booked into the Dallas County jail.

Alkhalaf’s family tells FOX 4 he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. They went on to say he was a humble man who worked hard to support his family locally and abroad.

The family is left speechless and horrified by this senseless act of violence, saying Alkhalaf life was taken over a cellphone.

Court records show Medrano was serving a five-year probation sentence for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after pleading guilty to stabbing someone last year.

Medrano is now charged with capital murder. Her bond is set at $1 million.
