Hemp falls of the Texas list of dangerous drugs on Friday. So what does that mean for hemp products like CBD oil?

The Texas Department of State Health Services will no longer classify hemp with drugs like heroin and cocaine on the state’s list of Schedule 1 Restricted Substances.

Hemp comes from the cannabis plant but does not give a high like marijuana.

Good Day talked to criminal defense attorney Mike Howard about the change. He said it’s an issue the Texas Legislature now needs to address.

“CBD is not fully legal until the legislature says CBD that even contains a detectable amount of THC under this level then that’s legal. Until we get that, it’s not legal,” Howard said.

One house committee discussed four hemp-related bills earlier this week but none have reached the house floor yet.
