FOX 4's Dan Godwin got a preview of the new Carlo's Bakery in Dallas. He talked to "Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro about the cannolis, lobster rolls, layer cookies and other treats that will be available at the new location.
The New Jersey-based bakery featured on the hit TV show Cake Boss is opening its first Texas store in the Preston Center, at the site where there was once a La Madeline. Long lines are expected when doors open Saturday morning.
Customers in Dallas will be able to see all the cakes and individual desserts on display, plus look into the kitchen of the new bakery.
“We’re really proud of the way we do things the old fashioned way. Everything is still made by hand and we wanted to showcase our open kitchen because we do everything fresh. We keep the place immaculate and we just do it the way I’ve been doing it for years,” Valastro said.
He said he’s excited about being in Texas. He decided to open a bakery here because he kept meeting people in New Jersey who traveled all the way from Texas just to taste his cakes.
“We’re just so excited to be here in Dallas. I’m bringing a little bit of Jersey love here to Texas. And you know what they say, everything is bigger in Texas. So, you know, I’m going to have to do a really big cake here, probably the biggest we’ve ever made.”
The Dallas site will be the thirteenth location of Carlo’s Bakery, with most located in New Jersey and New York. Carlo’s Bakery was opened in 1910, but became famous thanks to the TLC show Cake Boss, which is currently in its seventh season.
Valastro said despite the growth, it’s still a family business. He brought his daughter to help at the Dallas bakery for her spring break.
“I love the fact that I’m still doing it with my family. We do things the way my parents taught us and I’m passing that on to the next generation. So I’m truly living the American dream. But we want to bring back the old world quality of a bakery that exists here at Carlo’s,” he said.
The store opens at 8:30 a.m. on Preston Road just south of Northwest Highway. Valastro will be there taking pictures with fans.
