The State Fair of Texas opens Friday. But you do not have to pay full price if you go this year. Consumer reporter Steve Noviello shares details of some fair deals.

There’s a different deal for just about every day of the week. And this year food deals are back.

Adult general admission tickets to the fair are normally $18. The price for kids is $14. But you can bring a Dr. Pepper can to the ticket counter any day of the week and get half-price admission after 5 p.m.

If you buy your ticket online, you’ll save $2 off either price.

Can’t get there on a Monday? Save that Dr. Pepper can for Tuesday and admission at the ticket counter is only $5. Tuesday is also the day to get discounts on the midway on most rides.

Wednesday you can give four and get four. Bring four cans of food for the North Texas Food Bank and you’ll get into the fair for $4. Last year this promotion yielded more than 300,000 pounds of food donations.

Thursday you can stack the saving with three offers. First, seniors over 60 can get in for free. Others can bring an empty 20 ounce Coke product and get in for $6.

Thursday is also Thrifty Thursday. Participating vendors offer one signature mini or regular size item at a reduced price. This is a great way to sample all kinds of fair food.

Finally, visitors on Friday can get half-priced admission by printing the coupon on the KISS-FM website. This is good for any Friday, including the Texas/OU weekend.

For the opening day this Friday, a full 20 ounce Coke product as a donation also gets you in for half price. Also, all active military and veterans (and their spouses and children under 18) get in free. Remember to bring the appropriate military ID for everyone in your party.
