2018 State Fair of Texas Winners: Cotton Candy Taco, Hoppin' John Cake and Arroz Con Leche

DALLAS - The State Fair of Texas has selected the winners of the Big Tex Choice Awards. They are the best new foods that you will find this year at Fair Park.

Fernie’s Hoppin’ John Cake with Jackpot Sauce won in the best savory food category. It’s a treat that puts a spin on the classic, southern New Year's Eve "good luck" dish. It’s fried until crunchy and topped with a black-eyed pea relish and a side of Jackpot Sauce.

Arroz Con Leche was named the top sweet food. It’s a cinnamon-spiced rice ball that is deep fried with a crispy puffed rice cereal batter. It’s served with a side of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.

And the Cotton Candy Taco took most creative. The dessert taco has a graham cracker waffle cone shell and is filled with a marshmallow glaze, chocolate, cane sugar cotton candy and other toppings.

You can try the winning treats and many, many more when the State Fair of Texas opens on Sept. 28.
