Pickup truck driver dies trying to beat passenger train
HICKORY CREEK, Texas - The driver of a pickup truck died after being hit by a train in Denton County.
The accident happened just before 7 p.m. Monday on Hickory Hills Boulevard in Hickory Creek, which is on the northwest side of Lewisville Lake.
For some reason, 61-year-old Bryan Callahan tried to drive across the railroad tracks even though the crossing arms were down at the time. He did not make it.
A Denton County Transportation Authority train going about 60 miles per hour hit Callahan’s truck. He died at the scene.
The train was carrying passengers at the time. No one on board was seriously hurt.
DCTA brought in buses to help transfer passengers between the MedPark and Highland Village/Lewisville Lake stations while the accident was being investigated.
