1 dead following officer-involved shooting in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Texas - A Fort Worth police officer shot and killed a 20-year-old man on Sunday who was wanted for an aggravated assault.

The shooting happened near Lauretta Dr. and East Berry St., just after 4 p.m. Sunday.

Police say they were in the area searching for a suspect wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, when they saw him get into a vehicle with two other people. When officers tried to pull the vehicle over, all three people inside fled on foot, police said.

Two of the suspects were taken into custody, but police said the third suspect was found hiding in a truck nearby.

When officers tried to make the arrest, shots were fired and the suspect was fatally shot by police.

"Officers attempted to pull the individual out of the truck. He was non-compliant. The specific details of what happened from that point on I don't have just yet," FWPD Sgt. Chris Daniels said on Sunday night.

A police spokesman said the suspect was found with a gun. It's not yet known how many shots were fired or how many officers opened fire. Police say no juveniles were involved in this incident.

Fort Worth police have not said if the man pointed a gun at officers.
