Man shot dead by Watauga police, woman found dead inside home
The Texas Rangers are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting and the murder of a woman at the same home in Watauga.
Police say two Watauga officers fired at a man who pointed a shotgun at them. When police searched the rest of the home, they found the woman’s body inside.
The suspect has not been identified. According to police, the female victim had a protective order against the suspect. Now, investigators are trying to figure out how she died.
Watauga police said they were called out to a home in the 6500 block of Wooddale Drive around 10:30 a.m. Monday. A woman called police because she was concerned for her mother’s safety. She told police her mother had a protective order against a man who was at the home. The daughter met police at the home.
“She opened the door for officers to go in,” said Watauga Police Lt. Jason Babcock.
Police say two officers were immediately met by a man in the doorway holding a shotgun.
“He then pulled the shotgun up as if he was going to fire at the officers, so the officers fired on him,” Babcock said.
The SWAT team entered the home and found a woman dead in another room. Police believe she died before they arrived.
“She was nowhere near where the shots were fired,” Babcock said. “She was in a different part of the house.”
Babcock says the woman had recently gotten the emergency protective order against the suspect after he was arrested last week.
After the shooting, Watauga Middle and Hardeman Elementary Schools across the street went on lockdown.
Neighbors returned from work to find their street covered in crime scene tape.
The North Richland Hills Crime Scene Unit and the Texas Rangers are handling the investigations into the officer-involved shooting and the woman's murder.
Darin Mosley says he had no idea his neighbor had a protective order against anyone.
“Because if I would have had a protective order, I would have let them know that they if you see this individual, let me know about it or call police,” he said.
Watauga PD says the relationship between the man and woman is unclear, but they believe the man lived in the home at one point.
The medical examiner has not released the names of the victims.
