Fort Worth PD: Girl, 13, attacked near bus stop by unknown man
FORT WORTH, Texas - Fort Worth police are trying to find the man responsible for attacking a young girl on her way to a bus stop Thursday morning.
Police said the 13-year-old girl from Internationally Newcomer Academy was approached by an unknown man as she was walking from her home to a bus stop across the street from Western Hills Elementary.
Police say she was attacked between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. The girl was able to get away from her attacker but was bleeding when the bus arrived. The bus driver called 911 and the teen was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police don't know why the girl was attacked or even specifically where.
"We don't have any detail on how they came in contact with each other,” explained Fort Worth Police Capt. Deven Pitt. “She was walking to the bus stop to go to school. Some communication between her and the suspect. Don't know how that took place.”
Police say because the child's injuries are serious, they've moved quickly to ask people for help. However, they don't have much on the suspect.
“It's a white or Hispanic male between 30 and 40 years old with a light colored shirt and dark pants,” said Fort Worth Police Sgt. Chris Britt.
Because the attack happened somewhere near Western Hills Elementary, parents were notified and many were quick to alert their children of the danger as well.
"It's crazy. It scares me enough as it is with them outside playing," said parent Candace Martin. "I always tell them to stick together for that reason."
"I walk with my kids. I have two older boys who don't go got this school,” said parent Ami Contreras. “As a parent, I'm very concerned. It’s very alarming."
"There's a lot of homeless that sleep at this park right here," said parent Alicia Castellano. "So I quit taking my kids up here."
Police are still working on a motive. They declined to say if a weapon was used. They said they haven’t ruled out if it was an abduction attempt. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Fort Worth Police Department.
