Fire destroys boats and RVs in storage in The Colony

THE COLONY, Texas - Fire destroyed a half dozen boats and RVs docked near Lewisville Lake in southeast Denton County early Friday.

The Colony Police Department posted video of the intense fire at Hidden Cove Park, which broke out about 3:45 a.m. And also caused several propane tanks to explode.

The fire burned an entire row of recreation vehicles at the storage facility and the heat from the fire buckled the steel posts and the roof collapsed. Firefighters say that made it harder to put out the fire.

Campers nearby could see and hear everything from just across the road.

"Wow, the roar and flames, I mean smoke was billowing it was intense. I was worried, I thought I was going to have to move. I was worried about the woods back here,” said camper Dean Hundley.

Paul McCusker was camping with his grandchildren and heard the explosions.

"All the beams were buckling, all the roof was sagging all along it, pretty heavy duty structure for the wind, it was all pretty melted,” McCusker said.

Despite some of the difficulties knocking down the flames, fire crews kept the fire from spreading to other parts of the storage facility and the camp grounds.

No one was injured and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
