Arrest warrants issued for four Dallas PD officers
DALLAS - An investigation into a Dallas police officer has led to the arrests of several more officers, as well as new charges against the officer originally arrested.
FOX 4 News learned from sources that Dallas Police Department Chief Rene Hall informed the Dallas City Council about the case involving Senior Corporal Edrick Smith from the South Central Patrol Division. He was first arrested in December for taking bribes.
Arrest warrants have now been issued for Smith on additional charges of engaging in organized criminal activity, gambling promotion and money laundering.
Sources said the investigation has also led to arrests warrants for Smith’s accomplices in tactical and support services. Warrants for Sergeant Shannon Browning have the same charges as Smith.
Warrants for Senior Corporal Edward Van Meter and Senior Corporal Roger Williams list charges of gambling promotion.
Smith has been with the Dallas Police Department since 2005. According to a letter from Dallas' assistant city manager to council members, he will remain on administrative leave.
The police department said it would not be releasing any information until deemed appropriate due to protocols involving the arrest of city employees.
