18-year-old critical after Friday night hit-&-run
What started Friday night went from bad to worse for one young woman.
18-year-old Ann Marie Palao is in critical condition at Dallas Methodist Hospital. Police have not said whether they are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run, but her boyfriend, Jorge Villegas says he watched it all happen in horror.
He says around 7:20 Friday night, his girlfriend was driving her Honda Accord and he was riding passenger when they were rear ended by a young woman in a white SUV at Camp Wisdom and Clark, right on the Dallas/Duncanville line.
After attempting to exchange insurance information, Palao says the woman in the SUV got back into her vehicle and drove off, hitting Ann Marie Palao.
Villegas says he then watched her hold onto the hood of the SUV as they woman kept driving for nearly a mile, all the way to Spur 408.
Villegas says he didn’t know what to do but got back in her car and drove after them. He says he watched Palao eventually let go and roll into the road.
“I felt like I couldn't do anything. I was just, I felt like I couldn't do anything, you know? I didn't want to get too close and hit her or she'd fall off and I'd run her over,” said Villegas.
Palao’s great aunt, Juanita Guajardo says she has many injuries, including brain swelling.
“Her whole body is just, it has a lot of injury and lacerations. She has a rip from her hip to her thigh area. Missing the skin all on her back,” said Guajardo.
Doctors are now deciding whether they’ll have to remove part of her skull.
Palao’s family wants to identify the driver of the SUV.
