Richardson bar patrons reunite with bartender after stopping stabbing suspect

Nearly six months after a violent attack at a Richardson bar left four people injured, the regular patrons who stepped in to save a beloved bartender are opening up about their recovery and bond.

Richardson Bar Stabbing

On May 6, Stephen Kwembe called 911 to report that he was heading to Good Vibes Bar & Grill in Richardson to murder a bartender who had kicked him out months earlier.

Upon arriving, Kwembe jumped over the bar with a knife and began stabbing bartender Fefe Cansino.

Seeing Cansino in danger, three regular patrons—Reuben Blackwell, Harold Stemper, and Garrett Ledger—jumped over the bar to intervene and stop the suspect.

All three men suffered severe stab wounds during the struggle before responding officers arrived and shot and killed Kwembe.

They, along with Cansino, spent significant time in the hospital recovering from their injuries.

Reunion and Recovery

When FOX 4 spoke to Cansino in July, she credited the three men with risking their lives to save hers.

"I can never repay them for jumping in and saving me," Cansino said. "And putting their own bodies on the line."

The group reunited in person at a recent fundraiser event, where community members gathered to rally financial support.

The three men said their memories of that terrifying night are a bit fuzzy.

"And I looked over there and I went, ‘What the f--k? And I just jumped over the bar and grabbed that motherf—ker and I remember falling back," Blackwell said.

He was not the only one to jump in. Stemper did the same thing, and so did Ledger.

"If I don’t do something, he’s going to kill her," Stemper recalled.

"So yeah, no I didn’t notice until I was coming out from behind and I was like, alright, something, something’s wet, something’s warm. Something ain’t right. And I lift up my shirt, and I’m lit up and I’m like, ‘Oh, okay," Ledger said.

Stemper and Blackwell were also stabbed.

"He stabbed me right in the heart, in the bottom of my heart. I have staples in my heart now that’ll never go away," Stemper said.

"And then I get up and look down, and I seen my guts hanging out," Blackwell said.

But the three men said seeing Cansino alive makes them feel like it was worth it.

"God wrapped his arms right around all of us," Stemper said.

They also expressed their gratitude to all the people who attended the fundraiser and donated to support their recovery efforts. It makes them feel appreciated.

"We take care of people. We take care of one another. And that’s what we need to have more going on in life is people watching out for one another," Blackwell said.

North Texas contractor sentenced to 30 years for stealing from clients

A former contractor was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to theft of property in Tarrant County, totaling more than $300,000.

Police said Jeremy Jerod Zeno used excuses, different aliases, and ghosting tactics while posing as a trusted North Texas contractor, collecting checks from customers and withdrawing the money in cash.

Contractor Fraud Investigation

The Tarrant County investigation began after a customer, Terry Stevenson, filed a complaint with the Benbrook Police Department in 2024.

Stevenson said he paid Zeno $40,000 for a barn/condominium renovation. The project had barely begun when Zeno stopped communicating with him.

"He kept saying the materials are coming. The materials are coming. The materials never came," said Stevenson, who flew in from Iowa this week to testify.

Other victims came forward detailing similar experiences:

Lee Robinson of Arlington: Lost $35,000 during a construction project in Alvarado and shared photos of the unfinished build. Robinson posted a warning on Facebook last year stating he learned "so much about the worst contractor in DFW," leading other victims to reply with similar stories.

Selvin Rosa of Universal Foundation Experts in Dallas: Poured a foundation for a home in Hood County and was never paid.

A fourth victim from the Royse City/Rockwall area: Paid Zeno $180,000 over the phone and lost the money.

Zeno’s victims never got their money back but at least they now have some justice.

Stevenson wore a shirt in court on Friday that read, "Zeno Construction Officially Closed."

"Patience is the key to this. We will win in the end," he said.

"You can’t do this to your clients. You are destroying homes, their investments, and their life," Rosa said. "He deserves the 30 years because it is not his first rodeo."

Prosecutors said Zeno continued operating his scheme while on deferred adjudication in Hood County for a similar crime and while out on bond in Tarrant County in this case.

After pleading guilty on Friday, he’s finally headed to prison.

The Lewisville Independent School District teacher arrested earlier this week for child sex crimes is facing additional charges.

Hebron H.S. teacher arrested

Gloria Reséndiz, who teaches at Hebron High School in Carrollton, was charged with indecency with a child, sexual conduct, and child grooming.

Detectives obtained additional information that led to two more charges against her – improper relationship between an educator and a student and sexual assault on a child.

An additional $75,000 was added to her bond for each additional charge.

Reséndiz turned herself on Tuesday after police obtained warrants for her arrest.

Carrollton police investigators said she had an inappropriate relationship with a juvenile student at Hebron High School. The student was enrolled in one of her classes during the prior school year.

According to arrest documents obtained by FOX 4, Reséndiz had provided multiple gifts to the student, and the student wrote in a note on their phone that the two had kissed in March 2026.

Other notes observed by investigators said Reséndiz and the student would "sneak around" to hide their relationship from others, and that the student would spend time after school and during lunch hours in Reséndiz's classroom.

Documents state the two had made video calls on WhatsApp "at least three or four times a day with some of the conversations lasting over seven hours."

Lewisville ISD placed Reséndiz on administrative leave after learning of the allegations.

Texas man who made online threats toward ICE, President Trump gets over 2 years in prison

A North Texas man who authorities said repeatedly made violent threats toward ICE agents and President Donald Trump has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison.

Francisco Jesus Mena, 37, of Springtown, was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty in June to one count of threatening a federal official, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

Court documents state that Mena made several posts across multiple social media platforms threatening to assault and murder the president. Some of the posts also included threats directed at ICE.

In one post, Mena wrote, "KILL TRUMP," multiple times and stated that if ICE agents came to his residence, he would "respond with a gunfight." He also claimed he had previously stabbed an ICE agent and "would love to do this again."

Investigators said Mena continued to write posts encouraging violence against federal officers and people with "blue eyes and white skin," while also offering payment to anyone willing to harm the president.

These posts were made over the course of two weeks in May 2025, according to the DOJ.

"Threats against the president and federal officers are crimes that my office takes very seriously," said U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Ryan Raybould. "We will continue to prosecute individuals like the defendant who seek to intimidate, impede or retaliate against federal law enforcement for performing vital national security and immigration related duties."

Democratic Senate candidate and Texas state Rep. James Talarico was spotted at the Austin City Limits festival on Friday just hours after his Republican rival and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton launched a tipline asking supporters for sightings.

It’s a narrative that the Paxton camp has seized on this week after Talarico attended an event virtually instead of in person and canceled other campaign stops. He even brought it up during a campaign stop with President Donald Trump in San Antonio this week.

People who call the tipline (833-569-9258) hear a voice that recounts the number of days Talarico has been off the stump trail, asks them to leave a message if they’ve seen the Democrat and reminds them to vote for Paxton.

"We’ve tried posters. We’ve tried a formal proof-of-life request. Now we’re asking every Texan to help bring Jimmy home," Madison Cercy, a spokesperson for the Paxton camp said in a statement. "If you spot James Talarico in Texas, call the tip line. If you spot him at a Hollywood fundraiser, don’t bother. We already know he’ll show up for those. Texans shouldn’t need a hotline to find the man asking for their vote."

Talarico campaign says he has the flu

A video of Talarico walking around the festival ground at Austin City Limits surfaced on social media Friday. It was reposted by JT Ennis, a spokesperson for the campaign, who said, "Hate to disappoint the conspiracy theorists, but James is still alive and meeting with voters at ACL today."

Talarico's campaign said his absence is easily explained – he was sick.

"After holding more than 100 public events and meeting with tens of thousands of supporters, James came down with the flu but will be back on the trail soon," JT Ennis, spokesperson for the Talarico campaign, said in a statement. "Ken Paxton has spent this campaign hiding from everyone -- running away from reporters’ questions and ducking repeated offers to debate James Talarico, even on Fox News. While James was meeting with Texans all summer, Ken Paxton was on a luxurious European vacation. Paxton has been ignoring Texans this entire campaign, and his priorities are clear: he doesn’t answer to the people of this state – he answers to his billionaire megadonors and special interests."

Razor-thin margins

Polls continue to show the Texas Senate race is tight, with the candidates inside the margin of error in most surveys.

Early voting in Texas begins Oct. 19. Election Day is Nov. 3.

North Texas disaster relief organizations prepare for Hurricane Isaias

Nonprofit organizations in North Texas are already preparing to lend a hand to those impacted by Hurricane Isaias, which is expected to make landfall along the Florida Panhandle on Friday night.

World Vision is a global humanitarian aid organization. The team at its warehouse in Dallas spent Friday getting relief supplies ready.

Manager Roberta Taylor said there is a truck prepared to go out on Saturday morning with supplies such as non-perishable food items, generators, tarps, cleanup kits, backpacks, diapers, socks, and toys for the kids.

She said World Vision works with a variety of partners to provide relief where it’s needed most.

"We don’t know what the devastation may be. Hopefully, it’s not that bad," Taylor said. "We’re continually monitoring every disaster or potential disaster out there. We have pre-purchased product that's already here in the warehouse ready to go so that we're able to respond quickly."

Taylor said supply donations are always welcome, although World Vision prefers monetary donations. That way, organizers can purchase exactly what’s needed for the specific disaster.

To make a donation, visit worldvision.org.

Dallas community calls on city to return colorful trash cans

A Dallas community is calling on the city to bring back trash cans removed just weeks after they were installed.

Back in September, the Highland Hills Community Liaison Association received a $2,000 grant from Dallas Code Compliance Services to help cut down on litter.

The group used the money to install colorful trash cans decorated with cartoon characters.

But organizers said the city’s transportation department determined the cans were in the wrong locations and removed them.

Now the group wants the city to bring the trash cans back.

The association is urging city leaders to return the trash cans to the Highland Hills neighborhood.

Organizers said they followed the city’s installation guidelines and believe the removal was a waste of grant money.

"To take something so simple as a trash can that has been there over two months? That's ridiculous. And why is that ridiculous? Because it hadn't been vandalized. The community actually liked it. It was something that the kids that would walk by from schools and parents would be at the stoplight and the kids liked to see something beautiful," said Jayla Godbolt with the Highland Hills Community Liaison Association.

The organizers said they are willing to work with the city to find appropriate locations for the colorful cans.

FOX 4 reached out to the city council representative for the neighborhood but has not yet received a response.

Abbott calls for elimination of screen time in Texas classrooms

State Rep. Gina Hinojosa, Abbott’s Democratic opponent, said the governor is the one who has let technology take root in Texas schools to begin with.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called for the elimination of screens in schools during an event in Dallas on Friday.

Abbott was speaking to the Moms for Liberty when he touted an "extraordinarily consequential" law that came out of the 2025 legislative session that banned cellphones in classrooms.

"After it got implemented, administrators, teachers, parents and students all love it, because now we have restored that communication among kids in school," Abbott said.

The Republican seeking reelection for a third time and a historic fourth term said he wants to expand the technology ban during the next legislative session.

"We’re going to be eliminating and reducing screen time in classrooms for students, and getting back to true education," Abbott said.

Hinojosa blames Abbott for education failures

State Rep. Gina Hinojosa, Abbott’s Democratic opponent, said the governor is the one who has let technology take root in Texas schools to begin with.

"Abbott’s failed education record has been to gamify education, even appointing a tech entrepreneur to run his Education agency," Hinojosa said in a statement to FOX Local. "He has replaced hands-on learning with screen time in elementary school and is now ushering in AI schools in Houston ISD after taking over the school district and receiving $1.5 million from the founder of an AI schools franchise. Everything out of Abbott’s mouth this campaign is the opposite of what he does. Abbott lies, and Texans know it."

Tightening governor’s race

Recent polling has shown the Texas governor’s race is close, with both candidates inside the margin of error of most surveys.

A poll by YouGov that was fielded between Sept. 28 and Oct. 5 showed Hinojosa leading Abbott by a point.

Early voting begins in Texas on Oct. 19. Election Day is Nov. 3.

A 15-year-old boy is facing a manslaughter charge after an 18-year-old he shot inside a car died from his injuries.

According to police, around 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 3, officers responded to a call at a hospital in the 8200 block of Walnut Hill Lane.

Cristopher Nevarez, 18, and a 15-year-old male arrived at the hospital after a shooting at a separate location.

Investigators determined the 15-year-old shot Nevarez from behind while the two sat in a car.

The gunfire hit Nevarez in the neck, initially leaving him in critical condition, and hit the 15-year-old in the hand.

The Dallas Police Fugitive Unit arrested the juvenile on Oct. 5 on a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Nevarez died from his injuries two days later.

Police say they will upgrade the charges against the teen to manslaughter.

The juvenile suspect remains in police custody.

Officials did not disclose what prompted the shooting, nor have they clarified the relationship between the suspect and the victim.

Because he is a minor, police did not release the 15-year-old suspect's name.

Police arrested an Aubrey man after he allegedly secretly recorded a woman at a Frisco gym.

Officers arrested 38-year-old Eli Rodriguez on Thursday, Oct. 8.

Police discovered multiple videos of a woman, referred to as Jane Doe, on the suspect’s phone in various stages of undress, with some recordings dating back to 2024.

Officers also discovered child pornography on Rodriguez's phone.

Police have not disclosed how many files were found or whether there are additional victims tied to the case.

We also do not know if the files were distributed in any way.

Rodriguez faces charges of invasive visual recording, a state jail felony, and possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony.

Under Texas law, a state jail felony carries a potential punishment of 180 days to two years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. A third-degree felony is punishable by two to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Jane Doe is suing Planet Fitness. She says Planet Fitness never reached out to her after police discovered the recordings.

The lawsuit accuses the franchise company operating the Frisco gym of negligence. The filing cites seven previous incidents of illegal secret recordings taking place at other Planet Fitness locations dating back to 2014.

Jane Doe said the experience left her feeling violated and alarmed, particularly because Planet Fitness never reached out to her after police discovered the recordings.

"I definitely thought it would be private and definitely a safe space and never would have thought that my rights would have been violated in this way," she said. "I was shocked, and I was a little angry and definitely violated. And I also found out that it wasn't just one video of myself; that there were multiple in various states and dress, and it was really alarming."

Her attorney, Rogge Dunn, argued that past incidents across the country should have prompted company-wide safety changes years ago.

"We're not dealing with a mom and pop. We're dealing with a nationwide chain that should know better. They have the money, they have the resources, and they have the people to prevent this type of unauthorized secret videotaping," Dunn said. "Number one, warn users that this can happen. Number two, you know you have a problem, so institute security procedures, monitoring, watch out for suspicious activities."

Anyone with information related to this case or similar incidents is urged to contact the Frisco Police Department at (972) 292-6010.

Anonymous tips can be submitted by texting FRISCOPD and your tip to 847411 (tip411) or through the Frisco PD app.

A woman in Dallas died Thursday night after she lost control of her vehicle and slammed into a parked SUV in the parking lot of a nearby business

A woman is dead after a two-car rollover in a Dallas parking lot late Thursday night.

Dallas firefighters responded to the incident at 11:57 p.m. on the southbound service road of North Walton Walker Boulevard, just south of Singleton Boulevard.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found two overturned cars in a business parking lot.

One woman was pinned inside one of the cars. Firefighters pulled her from the wreckage, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police that the woman's car was traveling at a high rate of speed before it left the main roadway.

According to police, after the vehicle left the road, it traveled down an embankment, crossed the service road, and slammed into a parked SUV in the parking lot.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the woman to lose control of her vehicle.

Dallas Weather: Hurricane Isaias Gulf Coast impact & local weather forecast

Hurricane Isaias approaches the Gulf Coast with 110 mph winds and rain, while high pressure keeps local weather warm, clear, and dry.

Dallas morning forecast

Despite Hurricane Isaias's intensity along the coast, DFW residents will feel zero direct impacts. High pressure and a weak weekend disturbance will keep the remnants of Hurricane Isaias far to the east.

Instead, clear skies, low humidity, and warm temperatures will dominate the weekend. Large temperature swings are expected to continue, with morning lows in the upper 50s and low 60s giving way to afternoon highs around 90 to 91 degrees.

That is roughly 10 degrees above average for this time of year.

Light winds and bright sunshine have also triggered an air quality alert for Friday afternoon due to ozone buildup. Residents with respiratory issues are advised to take extra precautions.

Winds are forecast to pick up by late Sunday, with humidity and cloud cover slowly rising early next week ahead of a slight chance for rain by midweek.

7-day forecast

Hurricane Isaias Update

Hurricane Isaias continues to churn toward the southern Gulf Coast as a Category 2 storm, with maximum sustained winds picking up to 110 mph and central pressure dropping.

The storm is expected to strengthen slightly in warm Gulf waters before reaching land. However, wind shear and dry air coming off land should cause the hurricane to weaken right around landfall.

A hurricane warning is in effect from far southeastern Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle, while tropical storm watches extend into central Alabama.

Heavy rainfall is expected across the southern Gulf Coast through Sunday, with widespread totals between 4 and 7 inches and isolated areas getting up to 12 inches.

LIVE RADAR

Dallas car dealership owner disputes fraud claims after vehicle repossessions

Dallas Police say there’s a vast number of people affected, and there is a pattern of the suspect illegally repossessing vehicles. One of those families reached out to FOX 4. So, we took questions to the owner.

"You do not believe there was anything criminal that you did?" FOX 4's David Sentendrey asked.

Rafat Abu Alfilat, owner of 101 Financial, LLC, a vehicle dealership off Joe Field Road and Harry Hines Boulevard, says he disputes the allegations of fraud against him.

"Why have the police not shut him down, yet?" Jaszmyne Lyons and her husband believe differently.

"Why is he still out and able to do this?" Billy Lyons says. (Jaszmyne: For years). "For years."

In March of 2025, the couple purchased a 2019 Gray Tesla valued at $18,200. They put $5,000 down with the dealership that only does ‘in-house financing,’ meaning the dealership acts as a bank and controls rights to the vehicle until it’s paid off.

"We put the money down and we worked hard for it," Billy Lyons says.

According to an arrest warrant, Abu Alfilat had her Tesla repossessed for a financing contract violation of "no insurance."

"We thought the car was stolen. We called the police station. They said the car wasn’t stolen — it was reported as a repo," Billy Lyons says.

Dallas Police, however, say Lyons "had valid insurance and provided that documentation."

Lyons went to get her Tesla back but Abu Alfilat "threatened to have her criminally trespassed from his property," according to an arrest warrant.

"After that, we had to basically come up with more money again on top of what we already had to give him and get another car," Jaszmyne Lyons says.

A detective uncovered the Tesla "had been called in as repossessed six different times" in one year. An arrest warrant issued for Alfilat claims a "detective can prove a pattern of [Abu Alfilat] illegally repossessing vehicles from multiple different complainants."

"Now I know that we not the only person getting done like this and I know we’re not crazy," Billy Lyons says.

Police say the alleged vehicle thefts value more than $200,000 ($206,941.75). In April 2025, Dallas Police issued a felony theft arrest warrant for Abu Alfilat. Police also issued a felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon arrest warrant, alleging Abu Alfilat punched a man "on his face" and swung a hammer at him. That man reportedly showed up to the dealership to talk "about getting his car back which had been repossessed."

Still, 18 months later, there’s been no movement in the criminal courts.

In a statement to FOX 4, Dallas PD says: "Formal charges are still pending due to the vast amount of people affected and the additional investigating that is still taking place." The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office says: "It is being reviewed for possible prosecution.

"We’re dealing with this now almost a year later, still, to this day," Billy Lyons says.

101 Financial, LLC is still operating. We showed up and spoke with the owner, Abu Alfilat, on September 30.

"Do you want to step out and do an interview with us?" FOX 4’s David Sentendrey asked Alfilat.

He chose to not get out of his vehicle for a formal interview, but we talked for 20 minutes.

"We’re going off of what the police documents say," Sentendrey said.

He says he will sit down with FOX 4, and his attorney, in the future. He believes these are civil matters, nothing criminal.

"When they sit here and talk about the police, they come here all the time because of the customers," says Kendral Pickett, the Regional Manager for 101 Financial, LLC. "You know the customers, they’re mad, their car got picked up for this or that."

Pickett believes this all comes down to customers not following strict in-house financing agreements.

"They say a lot of things but then when you go by the contract they turn around and everything comes out true. If that’s the case he’s been running this business for seven years…If they had proof or anything he would’ve been shut down," Pickett continued.

"They’re just targeting him because they see that he’s out here doing stuff that a lot of dealerships isn’t doing. There’s no I.D. no credit, you can come in here and you can get a car and just leave without any stipulations, zero interest, you know?"

As for the Lyons family?

"I wish it didn’t happen, but I hope it don’t happen to other people," Billy Lyons says.

They reached out to FOX 4 to share a message while awaiting a resolution.

"And please do your research on that car lot. Any car lot you go to," Jaszmyne Lyons says.

We’ve reached out to attorney Scott Palmer, who represents the dealership’s owner, but he wasn’t immediately able to respond, citing a trial he was tied up with.

We’ve also reached out to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.

The dealership’s license is still active, but the police affidavit signed last year says at the time, there were more than 27 complaints against Alfilat over the issue of repossessing vehicles.

TxDMV released the following statement to FOX 4:

"We cannot discuss details of open investigations, but I can confirm that the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) currently has active cases involving this licensee. TxDMV has administrative authority over licensed auto dealers, investigates consumer complaints, and may impose civil penalties or other sanctions when violations are substantiated. Penalties vary based on the nature of the violation, the facts of the case, the dealer’s prior history, any harm to consumers, and any steps the dealer has taken to mitigate or remedy that harm.

Consumers who experience a problem with a licensed Texas dealer may file a complaint with TxDMV at www.TxDMV.gov/complaints." (edited)

Dallas man faces 8 years in prison for unauthorized airport drone flights

A 24-year-old Dallas man has been charged with repeatedly flying a drone into a restricted airspace around Dallas Love Field and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

Drone crosses active runway

A federal grand jury indicted Pujan Prashantkumar Gajjar on Sept. 16 on four counts related to the unauthorized operation of an unmanned aircraft in protected airspace.

The indictment alleges Gajjar flew a drone into the runway exclusion zone at Love Field around 11:30 p.m. on June 26, 2025. Prosecutors said the drone crossed an active runway.

The following night, Gajjar allegedly flew the same drone into restricted airspace surrounding DFW Airport, according to the indictment.

Prosecutors also allege Gajjar knowingly and willfully acted as an airman without the required airman’s certificate in connection with the flights.

Federal agents arrested Gajjar on Sept. 22. He made his initial appearance that day before U.S. Magistrate Judge Renee Harris Toliver.

If convicted, Gajjar faces up to eight years in federal prison.

Officials warn of airspace risks

FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock said operating a drone in restricted airport airspace threatens pilots and crew members, as well as people on the ground.

U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould said in a statement: "Unauthorized drone incursions into protected airport airspace jeopardizes aircraft and endangers pilots, passengers and the entire community."

AI firm AMAX agrees to $2.48 million settlement over ineligible PPP loan

Federal prosecutors announced that an artificial intelligence data center engineering firm has agreed to pay $2.48 million to resolve allegations that it improperly received a second-draw PPP loan.

AMAX settles PPP fraud allegations for $2.48 million

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas said AMAX applied for and received the loan in 2021. The loan was later fully forgiven.

The government alleged AMAX was not eligible for the loan because the company and related entities collectively exceeded the applicable size for the program.

The settlement resolves a whistleblower lawsuit filed under the False Claims Act in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. The law allows private parties to sue on behalf of the government and share in any recovery.

As a result, the whistleblower in the case, Blockquote Inc., will receive $248,000 from the settlement, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Federal prosecutors target ineligible PPP loans

"My office continues to aggressively investigate and pursue companies that received PPP funds they were not eligible for," U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould said in a statement.

The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) was created in March 2020 under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act to provide emergency loans to small businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligibility depends on employee-count limits, and other size standards.

Mother at loss after State Fair of Texas purse thief takes terminally ill child's medication

A Dallas mother is at a loss after her terminally ill son's medication was stolen along with over $1,000 in her purse at the State Fair of Texas this week.

State Fair of Texas purse theft

Dallas mother Kayla Price tells FOX 4 her purse was stolen during a trip to the State Fair of Texas on Tuesday, October 6, at around 8 p.m.

Price says she put her purse in the back lip of her 3-year-old son Devin's wheelchair, but it was gone when she momentarily looked away to take care of her older son.

Around $1,500 was inside Price's purse when it was stolen, alongside Devin's expensive medication, which she says costs around $2,000 to replace.

Devin has a terminal brain tumor, and despite six rounds of chemotherapy, he has recently been placed in hospice care. His medication helps prevent seizures.

Price says Devin had a good day on Tuesday, which spurred the trip to the State Fair. Now, she's dealing with the loss of Devin's life-saving medication.

"The potential of my son having a seizure and me not having that medication …it sucks," Price tells FOX 4's Alex Boyer. "I could lose everything because of someone's careless act. It really hurts because I would do anything for my baby."

Despite his diagnosis, Price says Devin still loves to smile, dance, and sing.

Price has filed a police report with the Dallas Police Department, but in the meantime, she's made an emotional plea to the thief to return what they stole.

"I hope, I really wish you had it in your heart to return everything. You don't know the pain that you're causing me or my kids who you're hurting. Just give it all back."

Chris Bailey, who runs the page "Everybody Loves Everybody," reached out to the FOX 4 team to find a way to help Devin.

Bailey plans to make a $2,000 donation to replace medication that was in a woman's stolen purse.

Dallas Police are asking anyone with information on the theft to contact them.

Price has started a GoFundMe to support Devin's cancer journey, which you can find here.

City of Dallas employee bribed business owner to avoid code citations: affidavit

A former Dallas city employee took money from a local business in exchange for not issuing code citations, according to arrest documents obtained by FOX 4.

The Dallas Police Department arrested Daelena Howard on bribery charges on March 26, 2026. She has since bonded out of jail.

Howard was employed by the City of Dallas in its Code Compliance Services Department at the time of her arrest.

The city confirmed to FOX 4 that Howard was placed on leave following her arrest and is no longer employed by the city.

According to an arrest warrant, Howard visited Oscar Rivera, the business owner, on September 27, 2025, with several code violations she could issue to the business.

Howard offered to keep Rivera's business out of the city's code enforcement database if Rivera paid her $290 per month, and Rivera complied.

Over the course of several months after the initial interaction, Rivera sent $700 to Howard's personal Zelle account, and his business never appeared in the violation database.

FOX 4 has reached out to attorneys for Howard and Rivera, but has not heard back.

Kewon White’s lawyers seeking a new trial over sleepy juror

Lawyers for the man convicted of murdering Dallas rapper MO3 are asking for a new trial because of sleepy juror.

Motion for a New Trial

Kewon White’s defense attorneys recently filed a motion for a new trial because of jury misconduct. They allege one of the jurors slept through most of the testimony during White’s trial in September.

"Defendant is entitled to a new trial because he was tried by a jury that including a sleeping juror, resulting in the violation of his statutory and state constitutional right to a trial by a jury of twelve," the motion states.

This motion is separate from an appeal that was filed at the end of September.

The motion notes that the juror was observed to be sleeping almost every day for several minutes at a time before waking up and falling asleep again.

Both the prosecution and the defense repeatedly brought the matter up to Texas Criminal District Court Judge Chika Anyiam, and the motion alleges the judge either did nothing or only gave jurors a short break.

"The juror in question resumed sleeping after most break," the motion states.

It points to a specific incident during the trial when the sleepy juror was slumped over and appeared to be ill. Even though the juror advised she was okay to continue, the judge later agreed to break for the day after having a discussion with the attorneys on both sides.

The motion also includes statements from two of White’s trial defense attorneys.

"The juror's sleep was open and obvious. She would slouch down and lean back in her chair with her head tilted back, or her head would drop forward. While she was in that state, she was not watching the witness, the attorneys, or the exhibits being displayed," defense attorney Bree West said in part.

"I have had a plethora of trials and have seen one or two jurors doze off for a few minutes, especially after lunch. However, in those trials, the court took a small break, advised the juror to stand up and stretch, go get a Coke or a coffee, or released the jury early for the day. This matter was different because this wasn’t just a few minutes of inattentiveness and alertness by that juror, but a few hours of continually on and off sleeping for several minutes with the juror clearly missing material evidence from material witnesses," added co-defense attorney Myra McIntosh.

It’s not yet clear if or when Judge Anyiam will rule on the motion.

She has 75 days to issue a ruling. She could grant it, deny it, schedule a hearing to review the evidence, or simply let the deadline pass without taking any action.

MO3 Murder

Rapper MO3, whose legal name is Melvin Nobles, was shot 11 times and killed on Interstate 35 back in 2020. Prosecutors say the shooting was part of a murder-for-hire plot organized by rapper Yella Beezy, whose legal name is Markies Conway.

In September, jurors found White guilty of capital murder and sentenced him to life in prison after viewing video and hearing testimony about the shooting. Prosecutors also presented evidence of an alleged payment from Conway to White.

Conway has pleaded not guilty to capital murder and denied involvement. His trial was delayed by a month so that his lawyers could get a copy of White’s trial transcript. The trial is now set to start on Oct. 26.

A third defendant, Devin Brown, is also charged with capital murder.
