Woman charged with intoxication manslaughter after overnight fatal crash in Arlington

A 50-year-old woman has been arrested after police said she was intoxicated when she was involved in a crash that resulted in the death of a 37-year-old man early Sunday morning in Arlington.

Bernida Collins faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury.

The two-vehicle crash happened just after 2:30 a.m., at the intersection of N. Collins Street and the westbound I-30 service road.

According to investigators, the driver of a Hyundai Sonata, Collins, ran a red light and struck a Honda HRV that was being driven by a rideshare driver.

Two backseat passengers in the HRV were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. One of them, a 37-year-old man, was later pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.

The driver of the HRV also had minor injuries.

Collins was also taken to a hospital. Evidence at the scene and her interactions with investigators led police to believe she was intoxication.

A search warrant was obtained for her blood and a blood draw was taken.
