THE COLONY, Texas - There was extra security at The Colony High School Monday because of a threat.
Parents and teachers were notified of the threat late Sunday night. The school’s principal issued a statement that said in part, “Police and school officials received information regarding threats made against The Colony High School.”
It all started with a fight between two students on Friday. One student reportedly told the other he was going shoot people at school on Monday. Rumors spread like wildfire on social media over the weekend.
Police said students weren't in any immediate danger on the campus. They questioned both students involved in the fight and both deny making any threat.
However, other students said the threat was a trending topic on social media all weekend long.
“Should we go to school? Should we not go to school? Some of their moms were saying it’s okay if they don’t go to school today and stuff like that,” said Bethany Williams, a senior at The Colony High School. “I feel like if it really was a real threat or something was going to happen they wouldn’t let us come and make sure that we were safe.”
Officer Kyle Koiner with The Colony Police Department said he believed most parents were happy to see the police presence on campus.
“It put their mind at ease when they were dropping their kids off,” he said.
Classes were held as usual.
