DALLAS - Police, the FBI and the medical examiner returned Tuesday morning to the Oak Cliff home where 13-year-old Shavon Randle was found dead in July.
The Dallas County District Attorney's Office said prosecutors and investigators from its office collected more evidence for the case.
"My people went out there to collect additional evidence, and we're in the discovery process," said District Attorney Faith Johnson. "That's not unusual. We do it all the time."
It wasn't known what was taken from the abandoned house by investigators.
Johnson said her office is working hard to assemble a case and take it to a grand jury. She said she wants to make sure everyone involved is held accountable and brought to justice.
There's concern the crime scene could be contaminated since neighbors say the home has been left unsecured for several weeks. Video on Facebook the day after the bodies were discovered purportedly shows people walking through the home.
Johnson says she's confident the Dallas crime lab and the FBI will make sure evidence is properly preserved.
"They'll be able to separate what's good, what's contaminated," she said. "So we're trusting that."
Criminal Defense Attorney Ray Jackson, who is not involved in the case, believes the DA's case may not be as strong as she'd like since no one has been charged with murder.
"That tells me as a defense lawyer they really don't have enough evidence or go a grand jury for an indictment or they would have," he said.
The small house still has crime scene tape around it and a large memorial in the front yard dedicated to Randle.
She was kidnapped allegedly over stolen drugs. Family members said she was in Lancaster caring for a disabled cousin when she disappeared. Then a relative got a call from an unknown man who said he had her and threatened to harm her.
Randle’s body was found on July 1 in the abandoned home. The body of Michael Titus, a person of interest in the case, was also found in the home.
Six other people were arrested for aggravated kidnapping and drug charges related to the case. But police have yet to charge anyone for the murders.
