WATCH: Child hit by a car in Plano, driver leaves scene

A young child was hit by a black SUV in Plano on Westridge Drive and Wilson Drive around 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. Police are asking for help finding the driver.

Plano police are looking for the driver who hit a 12-year-old girl on her way to school and then drove off.

A camera captured the SUV throwing the girl several feet early Tuesday morning. Police do not believe their suspect lives far from the scene.

The girl's family tells FOX 4 the young girl wasn't seriously injured. She was scraped up and is still traumatized.

The girl still made it to school that morning and reported what happened to her school resource officer.

Now, police are involved and looking for the driver.

The video is painful to watch and hear.

It happened on Tuesday morning around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Westridge and Wilson drives near Wilson Middle School in Plano.

Video from a doorbell camera shows the girl crossing the neighborhood street. The driver of a black SUV hits her, backs up, and then drives away.

The girl screams as she's thrown to the ground. She can be heard crying as she gets up and limps towards the school.

Thankfully, no serious injuries, according to the girl's family.

"This is considered failure to render aid," said Plano Police Officer Jennifer Chapman. "And it is a felony."

Plano police believe they're looking for a black Buick Enclave. Investigators are unsure of the model year. They're hoping someone in the neighborhood recognizes the vehicle.

"Based on the time of day, it seems like someone who lives in that neighborhood," Chapman said. "And we want them to come forward."
