Fort Worth police are trying to determine if the man accused of stealing and crashing a fire department SUV is the same person who called 911 for help outside a burning home.
Three gas pumps were damaged and one was completely ripped from the concrete when a fully marked SUV crashed into the pumps on Thursday morning at the 7/11 at 5800 Cromwell-Marine Creek Road.
The man suspected of taking the fire truck is Robert Kellsall, 47. He was arrested at the gas station.
Fire investigators say the fire truck was stolen from an active fire scene a few blocks away. Tire marks in the grass show where the SUV came off the road managed to hit three of the pumps.
The fire department says it's investigating if Kellsall is the same man they encountered when they came up on a residential fire.
"Our firefighters described an individual there at the scene who was acting strangely, went ahead and put out the fire, he indicated someone was inside the house, his family was inside the house,” said firefighter Kyle Clay.
Fort Worth fire investigators say neighbors told firefighters the man claiming his family was inside doesn't live there and the people who do weren't home.
"I heard somebody hollering for help. I just saw the flames but I didn't see who was there or anything,” said neighbor Eddie Leibas.
The fire department says arson investigators are trying to determine where the fire started in the house and what caused it.
The fire department says all fire vehicles at a scene have to be accessible because they all carry different fire equipment or communications tools.
