LEWISVILLE, Texas - A Lewisville High School student was murdered in a fast food parking lot right next to the school not long after school let out.
Police say the fatal shooting of a student was targeted Wednesday around 4 p.m. when classes were let out.
The 17-year-old boy was gunned down. A suspect was caught.
The shooting happened at a Raising Cane’s parking lot. A city of Lewisville official says a juvenile suspect pulled up to the restaurant in a vehicle, got out and just started firing a gun multiple times at 17-year-old Skylar Ashton Marquel Linson.
Linson was hit and later died at a hospital. He was a student at Lewisville High, according to that city official. The juvenile suspect was not.
It’s unclear what led to the shooting, but the city of Lewisville says it wants to be very clear this was a targeted shooting.
"Especially since it happened near a high school, I think it’s important for people to know this was targeted and not random," said Matt Martucci with the city of Lewisville.
After the shooting, the juvenile gunman reportedly drove off, but he was followed by a good Samaritan who witnessed the shooting.
That good Samaritan called police and continued to follow him until police tracked down the alleged juvenile gunman in Carrollton, about eight miles away from the shooting.
Police were led on a chase for a few minutes before the juvenile stopped and surrendered.
Lewisville ISD says it notified parents this evening about what happened. It says it will have a specialized team of counselors on campus Thursday.
