Former KDFW and current WFAA reporter Brett Shipp is leaving TV news to run for Congress.
Shipp will be running in a competitive Democratic primary to face-off against incumbent GOP Rep. Pete Sessions in Texas’ 32nd District.
WFAA confirmed that Shipp’s last day in the newsroom is Wednesday. A formal campaign announcement is set for Thursday.
"We are grateful for the many contributions Brett has made to WFAA, and the field of journalism," said WFAA news director Carolyn Mungo.
Shipp was a reporter at Channel 4 before moving to Channel 8 in 1995.
Shipp enters a crowded Democratic primary field, where ex-Hillary Clinton adviser Ed Meier, and former Obama-era Housing Department official Colin Allred have already garnered press and donations. Lilian Salerno and George Rodriguez are also running.
