Dallas drive-by shooting leaves mother, daughter seriously hurt after night out
DALLAS - Dallas police are still looking for suspects in a drive-by shooting that seriously injured a mother and daughter who were riding home from a night out.
One of the victims, who was transported to the hospital in critical condition, says they were at a stoplight here when bullets just started flying.
The shooting happened at the intersection of North Stemmons Freeway and Inwood Road early Saturday around 5 a.m.
Nikki James and her 20-year-old daughter were shot while riding home from a night out early in a private ride she hired.
"I just saw bullets flying everywhere. I did get out of the truck. I didn’t know what was going on," she recalled. "I knew I was shot. I told my daughter. I was like, ‘This must be my time.’"
Police say an unknown vehicle pulled up, opened fire on the black SUV and took off.
The 37-year-old is still recovering in a North Texas hospital from a gunshot wound to the thigh and another to her foot. A bullet also grazed her forehead.
James says her 20-year-old daughter was shot twice and has since been released.
The driver of the black SUV wasn’t injured. No other drivers nearby were hit.

A female Uber driver called Royse City police on Wednesday night, saying that her passenger had stolen her car.
However, video on scene shows the window of a city of Dallas water utilities truck shot out as employees were working in the area.
James believes she was targeted by someone she knows.
"I know exactly who did this," she said. "I spoke to the police so they have all the information they need to continue with the investigation."
FOX 4 asked Dallas police about the motive, but they wouldn’t provide any additional information, only stating that the investigation is "ongoing."
James is thankful she and her daughter are alive along with anyone who could've been caught in the crossfire.
"For someone to have that much anger, people have that much anger towards someone needs to be in jail," she said.
No arrests have been made in this case.
Detectives scoured the area for surveillance videos. They've also interviewed both victims as part of the investigation.
