IRVING, Texas - A four-alarm fire broke out at the Comfort Inn Hotel in Irving around 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Erica Brown and her husband in town from Louisiana were staying there. They planned to leave later this week for a wedding anniversary.
"He opened the door, and smoke was everywhere. Couldn’t see couldn’t breathe," she said.
A FOX 4 viewer captured a video while passing by on Highway 114 West showing the hotel engulfed in flames.
Firefighters shut down the east side of 114. The fire possibly started on the third floor.
"The fire was advancing so quickly that a collapse was imminent, and we had to go from offensive to defensive, and the search was interrupted," said Anthony Kennedy with the Irving Fire Department.
From SKY 4, you can see the roof on the three-story hotel did collapse. It made rescues urgent.
The couple was on the third floor. Brown recorded a video from her room. You can see a firefighter on a ladder smashing their window to get to them.
"We climbed out through the window on the ladder, and then the roof started caving in," she recalled.
Fire officials say there are no reported injuries. They are working with hotel staff to account for all guests of the hotel.
Brown says her car was among other vehicles in the parking lot that were also damaged.
"I’m glad to be alive," she said. "Everything we have can be replaced."
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
