DALLAS - Two people were rescued from their Oak Cliff home after it partially collapsed Monday morning.
It happened on Padgitt Avenue around 7:30 a.m. The two-story detached garage had been converted into a residential space.
Two people were home sleeping at the time. They said they heard a loud noise and felt their home tilt.
“It sounded like a big boom. Everything went that way. The TV, everything came on. If we didn’t move when we did the TV probably would have hit us because everything from that end came this way,” one resident said.
Dallas Fire-Rescue’s Urban Search and Rescue team lead them to the most stable part of the structure and rescued them from a window. No one was hurt.
Fire officials are looking into what caused the collapse. It’s too early to tell if it was weather related.
Firefighters are attempting to secure the house in the hopes it can be salvaged.
"It is not our intention to totally demolish it, we just want to put it in a resting state, so gravity can work with stabilizing the structure," Dallas Fire-Rescue Chief Mark Berry said.
