One person was shot Monday night after a reported vehicle burglary and a crash in Highland Park involving one of the suspects who was trying to get away.

The fleeing suspect’s truck came to a crash at the corner of Beverly Drive and Preston Road around 9 p.m. near the Highland Park Village Shopping Center.

Before the crash in High Park Village, witnesses say the same driver dropped off an injured woman just a mile south in the 4200 block of Oak Lawn Avenue. A delivery driver who was in the area described what he saw.

“I noticed a woman stumbling out of the truck of the passenger’s side. She looked dazed,” said witness Dustin Ridgeway. “She took a few steps and she collapsed. A man in the truck shouted at me and another bystander that she needs help. She’s been shot.”

A FOX 4 viewer sent in a picture of the man being surrounded by police at the shopping center and being taken into custody. Police say he tried to run away shortly after crashing. The witness said he was yelling “I’m sorry. I didn’t want to do this.”

Highland Park Police and Dallas Police are both working the scene. They are expected to release more information at a later time. They say they are not looking for any other suspects at this time.

The woman’s injuries aren’t expected to be life threatening.
